**Causes** - Exogenous Cushing syndrome: Long-term use of corticosteroid medications like prednisone - Endogenous Cushing syndrome: - Pituitary adenoma (Cushing's disease) - Excess ACTH production from pituitary tumor - Adrenal adenoma or carcinoma - Excess cortisol production from adrenal gland - Ectopic ACTH syndrome - Excess ACTH production from non-pituitary tumor - Excess AC

**Clinical Pictures** - Weight gain, especially in the abdomen, face, and upper back - High blood pressure - Diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance - Facial rounding ("moon face") - Thin, fragile skin that bruises

The most prevalent cause of primary adrenal insufficiency is autoimmune destruction of the adrenal glands.
