The use of qualitative research was the best method to use because this approach helps us understand the feelings of what we are studying. The usage of the qualitative method was utilized because the researcher is concerned about what the caretakers and families of dementia patients that were hospitalized felt.
3. What are the philosophical underpinnings of the research method?
The use of the grounded theory whereas the researchers theory is based upon the observations and perceptions that they observed. Expectations were influenced in many of the participant’s families and caregivers which leads to a preconceived idea, notion, or outcome regardless if it is factual. The purpose …show more content…
The study defined caretaker as a person that only had to have weekly contact with the dementia patient. This could be a neighbor for all purposes of this study. The criteria for becoming an informant should include a minimal amount of time spent with the dementia person to be no less than twenty hours a week. Also the goal was to find dissatisfied families and caretakers. Of the two hundred and fifty persons studied the study was reduced to thirty five persons. I believe also that the informants were chosen because they were dissatisfied. The study misleads the reader to think all families of dementia patients are dissatisfied with the care received in the hospital. From the numbers I calculated only fourteen percent of the families were dissatisfied. In this study the informants were only appropriate if you wanted a biased point of you, not a realistic one.
12. Is data collection focused on human experience?
Within the parameters given the data collection is adequate and is based on human experience. The study focuses on a small group of individualizes that were feeling dissatisfied with the care of their loved one with dementia at the local hospital. The study did provide the information to validate that theory based on observation and interviews.

What strategies are used to analyze the data?
Qualitative interviews were utilized effectively to categorize those identified and extrapolated to build a dissatisfaction in quality of care using this data.
18. Has the researcher remained true to the data?
The researcher, in my opinion, selected participates that were dissatisfied with the care received. He sample size was reduced by eight size percent and covered only one hospital. The questions asked had more of a leading tone to them with a negative hue thus promoting answers with more of a discontent response. Therefore, the variety and the type of questions were lead towards the outcome the researcher was desiring.
19. Does the reader follow the steps described for data analysis?
As the reader, I first determined the phenomenon of interest, then the purpose, method, sampling, data collection, data analysis, credibility, auditability, fittingness, findings then reviewed the conclusion. I believe I followed them, then returned to sections for more analysis of the research.
