The Old Town is filled with churches, monasteries, museums, convents, chapels, and plazas. Regular town people enjoy the streets of the Old Town through its music, food and spices, shopping, and just walking the narrow streets. The Plaza San Francisco is a cobble stone freer shopping center where much traffic is known to exist. In this Plaza is also where you will find the oldest church in Ecuador called the Monastery of San Francisco. This church has a colonial appearance and was finished being built in the 16th century.
Similarly, the New Town offers the same kinds of excitement, yet maybe not as much history associated with it. The New Town offers modern cafes, art galleries, impressive high-rise company and government buildings, homes, and museums.

When the people of Quito want to get away from the city, they go to famous parks in the city, such as the Parque la Alameda or Parque El Ejido. The Parque El Ejido is Quito's largest green space area. Many people go to both parks. The Parque la Alameda even has a large statue of Simon Bolivar near its lakes. Many people attend the parks, especially on the weekends. During weekends, the fresh market is held there, musicians give concerts, and artists display their work. It is a beautiful, fun and relaxing environment.
