According to cliffnotes.com racial disparity refers to a difference that may or may not be related to discrimination. In this module the video "Close the Gap| Racial Disparities" is what really got my attention because it talked about disparities between some minority groups. For example, in one portion of the video, they compared the education level between members of the Asian Hmong community and non-Hmong community. More importantly, the video showed how social workers try to help others get through these issues.
In the first portion of the video was about American Indian Women struggling. According to the video Indian women are less likely to get prenatal care. In order to alleviate the issue a place called the Minnesota Indian Women's …show more content…
The Legislative Report Card is a type of report which grades state policymakers and the governor on how supportive they are in taking minorities into consideration. I think this is a great idea since it lets the ones making the important decisions how they are doing. I think that if these report cards were given more of an importance then maybe more politicians would take it into consideration. This case surprised me the most as it contained a segment of the documentary “A Girl Like Me” where an experiment done by Kenneth and Mamie Clark was recreated with the same results; black children viewed the white doll as being "nicer" or "better" than the black doll (naacpldf.org). What is more surprising is that the children were asked which doll was more like them most of them picked the black doll which meant that they viewed themselves negatively.
