The WDEP procedure stands for W (wants), D (direction and doing), E (evaluating), and P (plan) which supports the overall system of reality therapy (Henderson & Thompson, 2011). This intervention would support Donte with understanding his wants and goals, such as returning to a subject that he had previously enjoyed. Further, the counselor would assist Donte in understanding what he is doing by exploring his behaviors (Henderson & Thompson, 2011). Emphasizing Donte’s actions brings attention to the most easily changed part of his behavior (professionl school counselors, 2010). Next, evaluating his behavior to see if it is working for him in getting what he wants, challenges his belief system in order to bring about change (Henderson & Thompson, 2011). The last step would be to work with Donte to create a plan for change. For example, the counselor would get a specific commitment from Donte about trying his plan he cam up with to get him back into class such as he may plan to work with his teacher during recess to make up for the missing homework.
