The concert I chose to go to was the student recital held on March 23rd in the Recital Hall. There were a total of 9 pieces performed. Those pieces were Jazz Sketches- Lennie Niehaus, Clarinet Duo No. 2- Bernhard Crusell, Polonaise- Jacob Adolf Hagg, Cinco Bocentos- Roberto Sierra, Mondnacht- Johannes Brahms, Verborgenheit- Hugo Wolf, I Attempt from Love’s Sickness to Fly- Henry Purcell, “I Belong to Me” from Elisabeth- Sylvester Levay, and “Dalla Sua Pace” from Don Giovanni- W.A. Mozart. The two pieces i have chosen to talk about are Polonaise- Jacob Adolf Hagg and Verborgenheit- Hugo Wolf. The first piece i will talk about will be Polonaise- Jacob Adolf Hagg. Verborgenheit- Hugo Wolf was performed by Preston Harrell who sung in baritone, and Julie Pride who played the piano. The genre of this piece is opera. Rondo is the form of this piece. The instrumentation of this piece would be a duet because there is one person singing and one person playing the piano. The style period of this piece is also the Romantic Period. The audience seemed to be very calm during the recital. It looked like most people were enjoying the pieces they were hearing. I think the piece that caught most people eye was Cinco Bocentos- Roberto Sierra, performed by Jose Rodriguez. I think it caught most people eye because it was a solo, and it was the only solo in the recital so i think more people appreciated it. Although Cinco Bocentos also caught my eye, it was not my favorite piece. I would say my favorite piece of the recital would be “I Belong to Me” from Elisabeth- Sylvester Levay. This piece was performed Carrie Moscoe who sung in soprano, and Julie Pride played the piano. This was my favorite piece because it seemed to be more of a modern day type song and i could understand it more than the other pieces. It also helped me understand it because the lyrics were in
