Reflection Assignment on Old Testament Survey Lesson 1
There were several things from this assignment that I have really thought a lot about.
1. The fact that Jesus moved around through the Old Testament.
I think a lot of people think that Jesus was only revealed in the New Testament. I never really noticed that the Lord appeared so many times in the Old Testament. It is important especially for new believers to understand that the Jesus was here from the start of the creation not just from his earthly birth.
2. People hide from God because of their sins.
In Genesis we see that Adam and Eve walked and talked with God. (That must have been so great) But when they sinned they hid from God. We sin this in people all the time. In fact I have done the same thing. When we are sinning and are unrepentant we will hide from God. We just recently had a man on our worship team and he slowly started to unplug from everyone. He slowly stopped coming to church functions, and yet he continued to play on the worship band. Then one day he decided to leave his wife. After a short time we found out that he was having an affair. He stopped communicating with his friends at church and avoided the messages being taught during service. He was hiding from God. If there’s one thing that we can get from the text, is that you can’t hide from God. You may think you can, you can try to avoid him, but he still knows and sees your sin.
3. The faith that Noah had was remarkable
I am so amazed by the faithfulness of Noah. Here’s a man that is told by God to do something so incredible and so daunting and difficult and yet he didn’t sway or falter. Most Men would refuse to take o something like that. The first really big issue is why I have to do something like this that won’t happen for a long time. I think a lot of times we don’t want to do something where the end result of that action is a long time to come. We only want what will help us today. So to be told by God to do something and to know it will take years of hard labor of suffering would be very difficult to achieve. There’s also the people side of the task. Knowing that your neighbors, your friends and your relatives re looking at you like your crazy and not let that effect your mission would be really difficult. And from a leadership stand point, Noah had to lead his family to be engaged and believe and to be motivated to help make this huge undertaking a reality. Noah was a very strong willed leader that wouldn’t let anything get between him and Gods mission. I think most people today allow all the “things” of this world to get in between them and the mission that God has planned for them. Imagine if
