Reform movements emerged in the Antebellum period (early 1800’s) and the Gilded Age (late 1800’s) due to a rise in politics. America was going through a time of change due to political issues. Gender was a big part of both time periods along with race. Woman and African Americans were being granted more opportunities.
In the pre civil war time known as the Antebellum period women's rights started to become a bigger concern. Women began to take action and raise their voice. More women began to receive an education and find work, however women were still far from being seen as equal.
