The Progressive Era, which spanned from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, was a period of significant social and political reform in the United States. During this time, various groups and individuals sought to address the social, economic, and political problems that had arisen as a result of industrialization and urbanization. While the Progressive Era did bring about some important changes in American society, the extent to which it was effective in achieving its goals remains a topic of debate.

One of the key achievements of the Progressive Era was the passage of a series of reforms aimed at curbing the power of big business and promoting fair competition. For example, the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 sought to break up monopolies and promote competition in the marketplace. As President Theodore Roosevelt famously stated, "A trust-buster is a man who fights for the people against trusts." This legislation marked a significant departure from the laissez-faire economic policies that had dominated the Gilded Age, and helped to create a more level playing field for businesses. …show more content…
