The Holocaust means destruction or slaughter on a large scale. The 1945 holocaust is the mass murder of 6 million european jews. The idea of remembering in the book is, remember so no one will forget the unspeakable event, so it never happens again. Remembering is strongly shown throughout the book. Hannah is encouraging people to remember, and when they escape they can share their story to the world.
