Many things happened during the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo period. There were many scientific advances and progress. These progresses greatly influenced the works of art during these periods. We can take different pieces of art from each period and see how science knowledge influenced them and what effect it had on them. Let’s take for example, David by Donatello, David by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Writing table by Bernard II van Risenburgh. The advancements in anatomy influenced Donatello’s David a lot. According to Dr. Beth and Dr. Steven “We can see from Donatello's sculpture of David—with its careful depiction of bones and muscles and a nude figure—that the study of human anatomy was enormously important for Renaissance artists. They continued where the ancient Greeks and Romans had left off, with an interest in creating images of the human beings where bodies moved in natural ways—in correct proportion and feeling the pull of gravity”. But during the Renaissance, it was difficult to make progress in the field of anatomy, as the Church prohibited dissections. According to Dr. Steven and Dr. Beth “The thinkers of the Enlightenment, influenced by the scientific revolutions of the previous century, believed in shedding the light of science and reason on the world in order to question traditional ideas and ways of doing things”. So, technological and other improvements were made. An example of work of art influenced by this scientific revolution is Bernard’s Writing table. It looks like a simple table at first glance, but this table is an example of the mechanical and technological improvements of the period. The table has different hidden compartments, that can be revealed with the turn of a key. When the key is turned, it activates some sort of mechanism and the table turns into a writing
