Adopt A Philosopher: Rene Descartes Rene Descartes was a philosopher, scientist, and mathematician. Not only did he contribute to the philosophical world, but he also contributed to the mathematics world as well. Due to Rene Descartes, students taking geometry can now find the distance between two points on a graph and philosophers have more insight on some of the many theoretical thoughts that he had.
Rene was born on March 31, 1596 in La Haye, Touraine, France and died at the age of 53 on February 11, 1650 in Stockholm, Sweden. At the age of 10 he began to attend a numerous amounts of colleges all throughout Europe. Descartes has lived in many different areas of Europe for different reasons and often changed his address in order to keep his privacy. The philosopher was largely influenced by Isaac Beeckman, Cardinal de Berulle, Johann Faulhaber. During his time, Aristotelian philosophy was taught a lot, he however, disagreed with many of the beliefs in that system.
