Many people are questioning if Americans should possess the right to vote based on record low turnouts. The voter turnout for America has been decreasing rapidly throughout the years. Good turnouts are important because it expresses each and every citizen’s opinion on a candidate or proposition, and lets the government know how much the country cares about their leadership. Evidence of this is that Jimmy Carter talks about the Peru compulsory voting system in the article, “Peru Trip Report.” He wrote about the 13 percent of the blank ballots cast in Peru, by people who spoiled the ballots(filled them with information that someone does not want to vote on) and candidates that they didn’t like. This evidence helps explain why Americans should not be required to vote because many Americans might have a strong opinion on who should run their government and many don’t. If 13 percent of a country refused to vote, what percent of forced voters are actually
