Medical Terminology was the most challenging and, also the most rewarding class I ever experience. Once you master the parts of medical terminology, it becomes easier to determine the correct procedure codes. My method to understanding terms was to make flashcards with parts of words. An example of a flashcard I created for studying was –logy which means the study of. I brought the cards to class each and everyday to review.

During my experience in medical terminology, I also made cards for words that sounded the same but had different meanings. For example, I often confused the words ileum and Ilium. An ileum is a part of the small intestine between the jejunum and the cecum. An ilium is the uppermost part and largest part of the hip bone.
