Why is Roberto Clemente important to Civil Rights?

I believe Roberto Clemente is an important figure in Civil Rights because in the article “Pride of Puerto Rico”, the author goes in depth about how Clemente broke barriers and showed other dark-skinned people can make huge differences in their work, place, building, or occupation. Clemente began his career with the Santurce Crabbers, then quickly moved to the Montreal Royals, and ended up with the Pittsburgh Pirates, which got into the All-Star league, and he kickstarted a golden age for the Pirates. This information shows how Roberto was a huge stepping stone for the African-American community and the Puerto Rican people due to how good he played and how he still persisted. Secondly, he was also discriminated against highly by writers, players, and mocked, tons of times on end, but he persisted against them, throughout his whole career, and tried as hard as possible to be his best. This info is useful due to how much effort, persistence, care, and work he put into his career. Firstly, Puerto Rico was the location where he was born, It helped him in warm climates, but hinders him in the cold. This made him a target of mockery, discrimination, and anti-bias. Montreal is also a major hindrance to Clemente, causing a language and race barrier. This piece of evidence is important because of how Montreal hid him from the public until his addition to the Pirates.
