London Meyer Mrs. Carey Language arts, Period 1 10 April 2024 Rogue Waves and Tsunamis Waves crash against the shoreline everyday, yet not everyday you will see a ginormous towering body of water or a series of waves charging for the surface as fast as a Pack of horses. However, rogue waves and tsunamis can be quite dangerous, knocking over oil platforms and demolishing cities, leaving people devastated. Rogue waves and tsunamis seem very alike,but when diving deep into the information covering location and appearance of them one can see just how different they are. Rogue waves are very tall waves found deep in the ocean. The location of rogue waves is usually deep in the middle of the ocean. In the text “What Are Rogue Waves?" on page 58, Simmons states, “A rogue wave is an enormous wave that occurs far out in the ocean.” These waves are very random and can be as high up as a ten story building or 1-3 of an American football field. …show more content…
In addition, rogue waves can look very intimidating. Known as a “freak” wave, these waves can cause damage to wildlife and kill about 56 people each year. In the text “What Are Rogue Waves?’’ on page 58, Simmons states “The surrounding sea can appear calm when suddenly a wave as high as 100 feet above the ocean surface comes crashing towards you.” This water can become very dangerous very fast as it builds up gathering water to come crashing down! All in all, Rogue waves have a very interesting appearance and a location nobody can detect before the attack. Tsunamis are waves coming towards the land at high speeds.
