Scene two:
• Capulet tells Paris that the Prince has ordered him and Montague to keep the peace, there is no more fighting to be between the families
• Paris asks Capulet if he can take Juliet’s hand in marriage, but Capulet thinks that Juliet is too young but if she is willing and loves Paris he will allow his daughter to marry him
• Capulet likes Paris and invites him to a party he is hosting that night
• Benvollio and Romeo talk about Romeo’s love for lady Rosaline, who is a member of the Capulet family
• Romeo is so convinced that the most beautiful girl he knows is Lady Rosaline, but Benvollio tried to console him by telling him that if he were to see other beautiful ladies he would not think Rosaline is the most beautiful woman in the world
• From Capulet’s servant, the boys learn there is a party on tonight, and as Rosaline will be present, Romeo decides he wants to go
• Romeo goes to the party and lays eyes on Juliet, instantly falling in love with her
• Benvollio is still trying to convince Romeo that If he goes to the party, Rosaline will look like a “crow” compared to the other beautiful ladies.
Scene three:
• Lady Capulet seeks Juliet to talk to her about marriage with Paris, the Nurse listens in as she knows Juliet as much as Lady Capulet does
• Both Lady Capulet and the Nurse try to convince Juliet into marrying Paris, by saying he is the most gorgeous man in Verona
• Juliet is not persuaded but accepts to thinking about if she would love him or not.
Scene four:
• Romeo, Mercutio, Benvolio and friends discuss going to Capulet’s party, but Romeo does not want to attend as his feelings for Rosaline returned and made him sad, and he feels some terrible course of events will begin at the party
• His friends joke around with him hoping to steer away his sadness
• Mercutio tries to divert Romeo by making a speech about dreams
Scene five:
• Capulet’s party commences and the servants (servingman) are anguished that some of the other servants aren’t doing their job and being lazy
•
