Respectful and anti-bullying policies – It is recommended that the hotel introduces respectful workplace and anti-bullying policies as soon as possible. Since organizational change can be emotional (Smollan & Sayers 2009), early staff engagement is the key to motivate people to take action and gain support when new policies are to be introduced. Staff engagement fosters open conversations, which often motivate people to understand without feeling vulnerable to criticism and attack (Jabri, Adrian & Boje 2008, p669). This is particularly crucial to Café Hip because staff would likely speculate that the kitchen staff, especially the executive chef, caused all the problems associated with the implementation of the new respectful workplace policy. It is important that the kitchen staff would not feel they are criticized or attacked by others when the change is introduced, or else it would create another level of bullying.
