Rosa refused to give up her seat because she was tired of giving in to racial segregation towards colored people. Because of this Parks was thrown into jail ( “Who was Rosa Parks?”). Word spread quickly of her arrest when she only told her husband when she was released that day, E.D. Nixon was there. He has been looking for African Americans to stand up against the racial segregation laws. Nixon then convinced Parks to be his plaintiff in court to destroy segregation laws. Then another idea arose: African Americans would boycott the bus company on the day of her trial. Parks was found guilty of violating the segregation laws, while the amount of participation in the boycott was bigger than expected. Nixon and other ministers took advantage of this momentum, forming the Montgomery Improvement Association. For this program, they elected Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as president.
