Rotator Cuff and Physical Therapy The rotator cuff is the common muscle group of four muscles and their tendons that provide stability and strength of the mobility of the shoulder joint. These muscles are located near the scapula and the muscles connect to the head of humorous and forms a cuff at the glenohumeral joint. The four muscles and description which is the muscles actions, origins s, and, insertions. Starting with the supraspinous origin is supraspinatus fossa, inserts at superior facet of greater tubercle, and the function is shoulder abduction. Second is the infraspinatus insertion is infraspinatus fossa, origin is middle facet of greater tuberosity of humerus and the action is shoulder external rotation. Third we have the teres minor muscles and the origin is lateral border of scapula, insertion is inferior facet of greater tuberosity, and the action is also external rotation. Lastly we have the fourth of rotator cuff muscles is subscapularis the origin is subscapular fossa, insertion is lesser tuberosity of humeral neck, and the action of this muscle internal rotation. Starting with some minor issues but most common reason for shoulder pain is tendinitis/osis which is over use and inflammation of tendon, can also lead to degeneration of the tendon. Tendinitis/osis gradually, slowly comes on over a period of time and becomes very uncomfortable.
