The Rwandan genocides began on April 6, 1994, and ended on July 16, 1994, happening over a period of 100 days. This genocide located in Rwanda, Central Africa, had two main ethnic groups including the majority, the Hutus, and the minority being the Tutsi population (“Rwandan Genocide: 100 Days of Slaughter” 2014). Before this genocide had started, there had been an ongoing Rwandan Civil War that started in the 1990s, between the Hutu government and the Rwandan Patriotic Front which was a Tutsi rebel group that invaded Rwanda in hopes of reclaiming their power. In 1993 this Civil War came to a stop when a peace deal was agreed upon, but in the following year something catastrophic occurred that would be the catalyst that started this genocide.
