The SB 1070 state policy of Arizona, also known as the state ID check. This policy was made in order to maintain population control, and limit criminal activity in the state of Arizona. This policy requires each individual in the state of Arizona to carry documentation to prove they are legally residing in the United States. The SB 1070 was put into effect in April of 2010, by Governor Jan Brewer.
During the year of 2010, Arizona had a population of roughly 6.4 million people, the citizens of Arizona who are mainly conservative were growing very concerned with the census. This republican state, whose culture is very traditional to say the least were growing very unhappy with border control, and how illegal immigrants easily entering their home state unlawfully. While the state of Arizona industries mainly focuses on tourism, the residents of the state weren't to thrilled with their jobs being taken away by the minorities, who were being paid a cheaper rate for the same labor. But the real turning point was when officer Robert Krentz was murdered. In March of 2010, Krentz was found dead after making a report that an immigrant had needed assistance. During the month of November, the BBVA performed a population survey and discovered that there were 100,000 fewer Hispanics residing in the state after the SB 1070 was enforced. It was also noted that in Sonora public school that is found on the border of Mexico, that the number of students drastically increased from the year of 2010-2012. Also, it was noted that from the years of 2009-2012 the undocumented population in Arizona plummeted about forty percent.
