Freedom of speech has been limited too much over the last couple years. Freedom of speech is a right that everyone deserves and should not be limited. People should not be fired for having opinions that might upset people, unless they have a code of conduct that states otherwise. College “safe spaces” are unnecessary and safe spaces damage growth and keep people unexposed to things they might not want to hear, these safe spaces do not prepare people for the real world. What people say on the internet should not have an effect on their life. Schools included. Opinions are meant to be shared, and these things block that completely.

Just because someone doesn’t want to hear an opinion doesn’t mean they should be able to hide in their protecting college campus. These students set up safe spaces when a speaker has not even offensive, but merely challenging views that might make these students upset. The real world is not a safe space, and that is a fact. The first amendment, the very first one written, states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; (Constitution Amendment 1).” Colleges cannot prepare students for the real world if there are safe spaces everywhere. If people started accepting people opinions, we would advance more as a nation, and would be more understanding. People might say that these are offensive to the college students, who may get triggered, and upset when seeing an opinion they don’t like. Besides the fact that it is completely hypocritical based on how they these triggered students treat speakers with different or potentially offensive viewpoints. It exposes people to opinions different to their own or how they were raised, which is what college should be all about. It should be about finding out who you really are, and what you believe in, not what your parents want you to believe in. Once again, the hypocrisy of the safe spaces, and the complete waste of
