Statistical Analysis Paper Teamwork between nursing and health care providers impacts patient safety and quality outcomes. According to the Joint Commission (2015), communication breakdowns in the health care industry continues to be in the top three causes of sentinel events that have resulted in patient harm. Health care organizations are focusing on improving teamwork by enhancing communication and the overall safety climate to improve patient outcomes, quality, patient experience, and employee engagement. A study conducted by Castner, Ceravolo, Foltz-Ramos, and Wu (2013), examined the relationship between nursing control of practice and the dimensions of teamwork determined by TeamSTEPPS. Teams Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) is an evidence-based model containing teachable learnable skills to enhance teamwork. The TeamSTEPPS curriculum teaches health care workers the five dimensions of teamwork: team structure, leadership, situation monitoring, mutual support, and effective communication. Sample selection bias and self-reporting also serve as limitations (Castner, Ceravolo, Foltz-Ramos, & Wu, 2013).
