Samuel de Champlain
Who: Samuel de Champlain was a French explorer who founded Quebec City and help establish France as an empire built on the fur trade. He also assisted by sending young traders into Indian Villages, allowing them to learn the traditions and language. Champlain also made alliances with the Algonquians, Montagnais, and Hurons.
When: 1603
Where: Northeastern United States and Canada
Significance: Champlain changed the face of French relations with the Native people. He was the first person to introduce deadlier weapons to the Indians and ultimately changed how they fought wars. Also, Champlain introduced the Jesuits to the natives which would lead to the spread of disease and large populations converting to Christianity.

What: The Pequot War was a conflict between the Pequot Indians and the people of New England, in which the English decimated the Pequot villages by burning their lodges and shot the people who escaped. The English hunted the survivors, killing some and selling the women and children.
