Differences between Saudi Arabia and the US It is really difficult to define what the culture is. If anyone wants to know what a culture is, he or she can go to a county that he or she has been to. When people go into the culture, they will see what the differences in food, language, education, and lifestyle are. If an American decides to see how Saudi Arabia is different from the US, he or she will go to Saudi Arabia to see. In fact, there will most likely be two obvious differences between Saudi Arabia and the US that they see. To begin with, education is the most significant difference between Saudi Arabia and the US. Most kids may start school at age of 5 in a daycare in the KSA. Saudi Arabia has only approximately 13 universities, so some students have to drive long distances to study at a university. Also, it has two or three universities which have high rank in Middle East. Moreover, government have financed Saudi students to study abroad. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia has few of faculties of medicine. It is obvious that Saudi universities has a few international students. In fact, most Saudi universities are easy to apply to because they do not have difficult requirements. Also, it is possible that the government in Saudi Arabia will expand many universities in the future. In contrast, in the Unites States, Americans start studying at a school at early age. According to Gall (1997a), a lot of Americans children begin going to school when they are 5 years old, and they may begin earlier than that at either a daycare or a preschool (p. 37). There is a traditional food in Saudi Arabia, and it is rice with lamb meat that is called Kabsah. Also, in Saudi Arabia, most people drink Arabic coffee with dates. According to Gall (1997c), “Traditionally, dates were the staple food of the Saudis” (p. 679). It is clear that it is important to offer dates to people’s guest. In fact, people can’t find any kind of alcohols in Saudi Arabia because of religion. Marheef is also an traditional food in Saudi Arabia. Marheef is wheat bread with both vegetables and meat. Saudi people do not eat pork because of their Muslim religion. People can’t find pork because pork is not allowed to enter Saudi Arabia. On the other hand, in the US, there are some traditional food like gravy, turkey, green beans, and hot dogs. The most common food is hot dogs. Also, the most popular kind of meat in the US is pork. Almost every American likes to eat pork. In addition, the dinner is considered the essential meal in the US. According to Gall (1997a), ‘’Dinner is the main meal of the day for most Americans” (p. 36). It is obvious that a lot of Americans finish work at 5 pm.
