Schizophrenia Case Study Essay

Schizophrenia is a well-known psychiatric disorder that can often present with several symptoms including hallucinations, delusions, and differently perceived thoughts and emotions. This mental illness can be treated by multiple pharmacological interventions and usually requires pharmacotherapy multifactorial interventions put in place to help reduce the symptoms of the illness. Some pharmacological interventions can include antipsychotics, such as Risperidone. This pharmacological class is known to have adverse effects such as extrapyramidal symptoms. These symptoms can create some side effects that can affect our movements. Within the case study, the patient had a diagnosis of schizophrenia. It recognizes the patient as the source of control and full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patients preferences,values and needs. Patient-centered care is important within this case study because it enhances communication and satisfaction. We learn to improve care and positive patient outcomes to further treat and manage this illness. Knowledge of communication, education, and describing strategies to empower patients or families in all aspects of the healthcare process. Teaching the client and educating him with the knowledge of these side effects and encouraging his participation in helping. Some skills include communicating patient needs to other members of the health care team and resolving conflicts. While having these effects, calling the provider and communicating findings is important so the provider can further the management of care and adherence. Also, using nursing interventions such as education, and hard candies with water to help with dry mouth can help reduce symptoms of the side effects as
