The Process of Making a School Shooter
What causes someone to commit such a tragic and heinous act of violence? This question has been asked repeatedly by many of us each time we hear about a school shooting. Sadly, we may never know what actually causes someone to inflict such harm onto their fellow classmates. What we do know is that there are three major attributes that usually contribute to the making of a School Shooter and they occur in a step by step order; the person usually experiences a significant loss in their life, followed by being prescribed one or more psychotropic medications, lastly becoming a victim of bullying.
Experiencing a significant loss does not automatically cause someone to become a School Shooter. However, most School Shooters have indeed experienced a significant loss in their life. Divorced or never married separated parents, the death of a parent or loved one, or an undefined traumatic life event are the most common “significant loss” factors. The severe loss often causes the School Shooter to act out and/or become severely depressed.

So, the family takes the School Shooter to the Pediatrician who in return quickly prescribes one or more psychotropic medications. Unfortunately, these medications are not the “cure all” to dealing with the significant loss. These medications can actually make things much worse. Psychotropic medications have known side effects, such as, emotional inability, nervousness, panic attacks, paranoia, hallucination, hostility, suicidal and/or homicidal ideation just to name a few. The School Shooter’s significant loss, in addition to the medication side effects cause him to become even more withdrawn and known as the “outcast” at
