An institution is an organization founded for a religious, educational, professional, or social purpose. Ras, by Scott Monk, follows Brett as he is sentenced to attend a juvenile center and the changes he undergoes during his time there. Institutional places such as the center aim at rehabilitating juvenile delinquents such as him. By the end of the novel, you can clearly see that The farm had many positive effects on Brett. Positive effects included helping Brett realise the consequences of his actions. The farm also raised Brett's self-esteem to high levels they had never reached. The last of the main of these effects is changing his overall attitude towards the world. Through these examples, it is evident that Raw, represents positive effects …show more content…
Brett believes that the world is against him and everything has to end with a fight. At the start of his journey, Raw describes “Like every center, it aimed at turning troublemakers into model citizen“ Brett though replied saying “as if”. This particular quote shows how Brett is narrow-minded and believes no one can help him. By the end of the novel, however, Brett was able to change his attitude. “ what are you happy about, he was asked. Everything he said” This particular quote shows how Brett's attitude has changed, especially when compared to his earlier attitude. After these experiences, Brett now sees the whole world differently as he tries to change his life.

Institutional policies aim in rehabilitating juvenile delinquents. Raw is a book by Scott Monk based on an institution known as the farm. It surrounds Brett, a troubled teen who believes the world rests on his shoulders. The farm’s overall effect on the individuals is positive. These effects change the protagonists for the better. It helped Brett realise the consequences of his actions, raise his self-esteem and change his attitude towards everything.
