Self-driving cars was the emerging technology we chose to do our project on. There is a lot of technology that goes into the production of self-driving car. The technology includes a hybrid vehicle, cameras, radars, LIDAR, and graphic-processing unit. Most companies who are developing self-driving cars are using hybrid vehicles as their test cars. The reason being that hybrid vehicles already have the power system that is needed to power the software and hardware needed to run a self-driving cars. If companies chose to use a non-hybrid vehicle, they would need to build a power system and install it into the vehicle so using a hybrid vehicle saves the company time and money. The camera on the vehicle is used to paint a picture around the car, just as a human’s eye would. The radars are used to detect cars and objects in front and behind the vehicle. It helps the vehicle know when it should stop because it is too …show more content…
The car will be taught to react to pedestrians crossing at a crosswalk, cars changing lanes, and people slamming on their breaks. Being able to teach a car how to react to these things will reduce the number of accidents on the road, and in turn, will reduce the number of injuries and deaths. Cars cannot get distracted by phones, music or other people in the car, therefore, there will be fewer distracted driving accidents. The roads will be safer to drive on because the cars are ready to react whenever something arises. Another advantage would be deliveries would always be on-time. Right now, truck drivers are mandated to take breaks after driving for a certain number of hours, but computers don’t get tired. The self-driving car would be able to travel for as many hours as it needs to in order to get to its destination on time. This would save companies money and time because they will always have their products when they need
