If no one stood up for justice in cases of human rights violations, the whole world would be enslaved. Standing up for what we believe can be difficult if we do not even believe in ourselves. When we believe in our own power and our own abilities, we can change the world. We should be independent from what others think when we know something is not correct. I attend a Christian high school and I do not always agree with what the teachers say and I have never been afraid to argue against them. Since it is a private school, teachers are allowed to discuss their political views without any restriction. Last year, I had an incredibly racist teacher and I could not stand by and let her keep talking the way she was. I called her out for her racist views and she lowered my grades on my papers, but I could not stay silent. I would not let her define who I was as a person just because she marked down my papers. I made it out of the class with an A and I have not talked to her since. That year was a year of inner growth for me for I realized there were injustices that mattered far greater than what the teacher or my classmates thought of my beliefs. I had self-confidence in these situations and I did what I knew was right. That year also helped me have better self-esteem in other parts of my
