One possible solution involves having a meeting with the entire faculty at the school and discussing what SPD is. We could have an Occupational Therapist (OT) assist in explaining this disorder. The meeting would cover everything from what it …show more content…
The teachers would know the “terminology that goes along with it, and be able to “talk the sensory talk” (Sensory Prepared for School). Being prepared is critical because teachers will be able to be the voice for their students and know how to handle each student that presents a challenge in the classroom. It will provide how to handle sensory integration and sensory needs. This meeting will give the faculty time to plan ahead in accommodating for students with SPD. Also, the teacher will be able to meet ahead of time with the parents to discuss an action plan for the school year. When appropriate and applied by a well-trained clinician, listening therapy, or other complementary therapies may be combine and very effective” (Sensory Processing Disorder Explained). With having OT in the schools they will be able to provide these accommodations for the students and help them succeed. They are trained to diagnose children that have this disorder and know how teachers can accommodate to their needs.

Once again the principal and school board would implement this to the faculty. The principal and the board would research people that are qualified for the position and have interviews. They would make the decision together in who would be best fit for the job. The principal and the board would decide if there is a need to have another occupational therapist.
