Physical Development: The physical rate of development from birth to three years of age is rapid. Between the ages of birth and three the social. emotional, behavioural and moral development starts with very young children finding out about their own identities. They need to form a strong attachment, the first being with their parents and carers in order to develop. At this stage children may start to have tantrums through frustration as they want to start doing things for themselves.
From three to seven years of age children are still developing their identities and will start to play with their peers and socialise through imaginative play. This helps them to develop their concept of different roles in their life. They should be given boundaries and are given responsibility, for example class helper.
Between the ages of seven and twelve years children’s friendships will become more settled and they will have a group of friends. They should be allowed to carry out activities and problem solve things that require more independence. They will need praise and encouragement and will be becoming more aware of what people think of
