• My Service Goals for this internship were becoming a certified AVID tutor, encouraging and managing student participation during class and in tutorial presentations, and partake in team building activities with the students in fifth hour at least once a week. I am very happy that I was able to meet all of my goals. o I participated in an AVID tutor training workshop in October and became a certified AVID tutor, which means I can get a job as an AVID tutor in any participating school district. o I struggled with student participation, especially in tutorial presentation with the eighth graders. They did not want to volunteer to present, so I had to think of a creative way to encourage them to participate. Public school is completely free and while the education might not be as great as one coming from a private or charter school, it is still decent enough to teach your child what they need to know. There are public primary and secondary schools Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade, sometimes multiple locations, located in a single neighborhood and teachers that are ready to teach your students. Also, the opportunity for transportation to better school is available. In public school, almost everything is provided to the students like textbooks and the library provides computers and allows students to print. The only burden placed upon parents is buying school supplies. I understand that college is not free, and can be quite expensive; however, there are resources, scholarships, financial aid, and loans available for students to help pay for college. There are so many resources out there that students do not take advantage
