This article is mainly to correct the motive of some researcher that presume that etiology, course, and treatment of sex addiction are equal between men and women and make an effort to increase the clinical understanding and the treatment needs of the women with sex addiction. Few studies done have shown that female sex addicts have been avoided or overlooked as they do not an emphasis on gender or them emphasis more on men. The resources that the main point is emphasizing on women sex addiction are limited. It was shown that women were more involved in childhood traumas and it was estimated that women have the highest number of sex addiction, which means we have to look more and talk more about sex addiction issues. Shame is one of the negative effects of trauma and disrupted attachment. Shame expose someone to sex addiction. Someone who feels unimportant will desperately be in needs of something that can lessen the feelings in this way sex addiction turns to an incomplete coping mechanism for shame. The four essential beliefs that shame is possibly known is that (1) the individual is a bad and unworthy person, (2) if others knew them fully then they would not be loved, (3) others will not meet one’s needs, and (4) sex or a relationship is an individual’s most important need. Sex addicts see sex as the real coping mechanism for the emotional troubles caused by shame. One of the messages of the culture that increase the outcome of trauma, attachment, and shame is that for women to be worthy of love, you must be good, which mean that as a girl or woman you must be nice, passive, and put others first. Another one says that as a woman if you are engaged in sexual behaviors then you are bad, which mean that you must deny your sexual feelings to be accepted and this causes pains for most …show more content…
Sex addiction was seen as a way of escape from the culture messages. All the etiological factors were connected with one another.
Several models should be used to treat women with sex addiction. Some of the models may include individual therapy, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral components, that emphases on starting a solid therapeutic alliance, on shame reduction, and on trauma resolution using different methods like cognitive restructuring, vulnerable sharing, anger work, and inner child work. Also, group therapy and 12-Step support and attendance at meetings (MCKEAGUE, 2014).
The main point of this article was emphases on gender differences to describe the etiology, presentation, and treatment needs of women with sex addiction. Shame is the main outcome of sex addiction and having more undesirable cultural messages compose for women which increase the outcome of trauma, attachment, and
