Sexual abuse to infants and toddlers Sexual child abuse is a child becoming a sexual partner for an adult. (Aronson, 2013) Sexual abuse can be divided into two types which are touching and non-touching activities. Touching activities are included abuser touches the victim’s private part, force the victim to hold or touch his/hers genitals, play sexual game and putting objects into the victim’s vagina, mouth or anal. While examples of non-touching activities are included showing pornography to child, exposing adult’s genitals to the child, photographing nude child in sex pose as well. Some people even download child pornography from the internet. This kind of child abuse is hidden and difficult to find out especially if this happens to infants and toddlers who are unable to express their feelings through words or language that can clearly understand by others. The abuser of sexual abuse may come from any background. There are more male abusers but sometimes female also involve in sexually abusing children. There is no “standard” characteristic of the abuser, that’s why we are unable to aware about these people and try to keep away the children …show more content…
Some people said young children such as infants and toddlers will not remember that they have been sexually abused. But this is false. There are studies found out that infants can encode, retrieve and be affected by early traumatic memories. (Slocap.org, n.d.) Children should immediately seek for professional help once they are found as victim of sexual abuse. It’s hard to suspect sexual child abuse because most of the children that being sexual abused will not tell the others because they fear the others will not trust on them. Infants and toddlers are much impossible to tell because they are either in preverbal stage or just learning to speak. Parents should be aware on the symptoms on their child so that the parents can help their children
