It was a pleasantly mild summer day, and my dad and I decided to spend some quality time shooting hoops with a basketball in our backyard. Despite the perfect weather, I struggled to make any shots. We took a break and went inside to grab some water and cool off. When we returned outside, my shooting woes continued. My dad noticed that my shooting form was off.

He asked, "Can I take a look at your shooting technique?" I just want to see how you're doing it." As I attempted a shot, the ball ricocheted off the rim and backboard. "I think I know what's going on; I had the same issue when I was your age," he remarked.

After watching me shoot again, with the same result, he said, "Let me show you something." He then demonstrated the correct hand placement on the ball and smoothly sunk a shot. When I tried, I missed the first attempt but managed to make it on the second attempt. Encouraged by my dad, I tried again and successfully made the shot.
