ACT ONE
FADE IN:
INT. FEDERAL PRISON LAUNDRY ROOM - FLORIDA - DAY
INMATES are working in the laundry room. A prison GUARD escorts BRANDON JOHNSON 30s, Afro-American, stocky and who is handcuffed and shackled at the feet over to ANTHONY BRICATTI 30s, handsome, Italian, clean cut and who is putting TOWELS into a dryer. The guard removes Brandon’s handcuffs and shackles.
GUARD
You, two guys, play nice.
Brandon and Anthony size each other up.
ANTHONY
How you doing? I’m Anthony.
BRANDON
Brandon.
ANTHONY
Where did you come from?
BRANDON
Coleman.
ANTHONY
This place ain’t bad. The chow is hit and miss. Too many rats, though.
BRANDON
Welcome to prison!
ANTHONY

BRANDON

ANTHONY

ANTHONY
I mean know disrespect. We have six hours to work together might as well get acquainted.
BRANDON
How long have you been down?
ANTHONY
Three years.
BRANDON
Don’t you know the rules by now? Never ask an inmate, why he’s locked up. You’ll get shanked for that shit.
ANTHONY
Forget about it!
BRANDON
You must be Italian! You from New York? Mob related crime?
ANTHONY
Yeah! I‘m from New York, but I live in Boca Raton.
BRANDON
You a connected guy?
ANTHONY
Now look who’s asking the wrong fucking questions.
BRANDON
In here you cannot trust anybody. It’s a matter of life and death.
ANTHONY
I hear you. I got respect in here cause I earned it... anybody fucks with me, it's their life.
BRANDON
I come from the hood. Overtown was a beautiful city until the drug cartels moved in. My dad left my mom, me and six brothers and sisters. We didn’t have shit. I was the oldest, so I did what I had to do. Now they have to fend for themselves. The streets are no joke. The judge gave me life since I wouldn’t cooperate.
ANTHONY

KEN
We have snitches and confidential informants, why would these convicts be any different?
LT. TAYLOR
Snitches rat, to save their own butt. Informants think it’s a job. Wearing a wire to set up anybody is a disgrace.
KEN
But it works.
LT. TAYLOR
Is the system here to help people or convict them or forget about them?
GALLOWAY
We don’t ask them to commit crimes. We are just doing our job.
KEN
What makes you think, convicts will go along with this program?
LT. TAYLOR
Sir, if you had a second chance of freedom, and making a difference, wouldn’t you consider it?
GALLOWAY
How would this work?
LT. TAYLOR
We will train them as if they were in the Military. Teach them undercover skills. Our goal is to help develop the team by giving them the ability to utilize and leverage the strengths of others while minimizing the weaknesses within an individual or team. We would specialize in counter-intelligence.
