Homosexual Couples and Children With homosexual marriage being legalized in more and more areas across the world, another topic has risen for debate; should these homosexual couples be allowed to raise children? While some are concerned homoesexual parents raising children would be a danger to the child, others think family goes beyond a mother and a father. Research shows that homosexual parenting is more personal and heartfelt than those of straight parents, and that the children show no more mental issues than children raised by a straight family, and that decreasing the amount of children being raised in orphanages is top priority. Allowing same-sex couples to raise children will increase the rate of adoption, allowing more children to be raised by a proper family. Of the 594,000 same-sex couple households in the United States, 115,000 have children, most of which are adopted (Friedricks, 1). Homosexual couples with children have been shown to break gender barriers more. According to surveys, homosexual men are more likely to sacrifice their career for their child, and homosexual women are more likely to be okay with having to provide for the household financially on their own (Murray, 1). In a heterosexual couple, it would be expected that the woman give up her career while the father makes money to support the family. This shows that homosexual parents are more likely to parent how it comes naturally to them, rather than conforming to gender stereotypes. This more personal parenting allows the parents to raise their child in a unique way that suits the family better depending on the situation, and leaves them free of pressure to sacrifice or not sacrifice things for their
