Minimum wage should be increased because it helps the middle class, working class, and the working poor errand more wages to stay out of and above poverty. Not only does increasing the minimum wage benefit those who work for wages or have low income, but it also helps boost the economy, keep local jobs in the United States, but it helps local businesses stay in business. In Seattle Washington, there was an illustration on why Seattle should raise their minimum wage to $15 an hour from $9.32. The biggest reason for this was the working poor is growing very rapidly and by rasing the minimum wage this could give the working poor a chance to work toward becoming the living wage. In other words, they working poor won’t be working just to work to scrap by but working and living like they make $15 an hour. According to The National Employment Law Project, low paying jobs such as your fast foods and retailers made up the 22% of the work force during the recession which makes the working poor growth by 44% since the recession started that’s double the people working than the jobs that are provided. The other problem with that is, that if an individual makes less than minimum wage, how are they going to afford eggs, a tooth brush, or a 6 pairs of socks where is the logic in that?
