Imagine being an impoverished inner-city kid that so happens to be very good at football and it is your only way out of poverty, top ranked universities are looking for you to come to their facilities and play for them. You decide to go to Ohio State because they are the highest ranked team in the country, but wait they can only pay for your tuition and housing, they cannot pay for your living expenses and since you come from an impoverished family their financial support is extremely low. Is getting a job when your schedule is from 5:20 a.m. to 9 p.m the best idea or what would you choose to do? This is something that often happens with “student athletes,” more often than you think all over the country. Therefore, NCAA football players should get paid because they have living expenses, they come from poor families , the NCAA makes billions of dollars off them and they also pay the coaches,which makes the NCAA hypocrites because they pay the coaches but not the players .
The NCAA claims to not have enough money to pay the athletes but that is a lie. The Los Angeles Times reports that the National Championship between Ohio State and Oregon made $1 billion dollars. The NCAA is not just for fun, it has transformed into a $11 billion industry and they are basically using the kids, this is illegal under the Sherman Antitrust Act under Section 1. Coaches get paid, but the ones who play and bring in the income get nothing at all. Alabama’s head coach Nick Saban recently signed a contract that would pay him $7 million, plus all the bonuses he would get.
