They start from having nothing and they aspire to have everything. In this type of journey they have to begin at the bottom and attempt an ascension to the top. While this seems harder I think they are actually equal in difficulty. I think it is difficult to rid yourself of everything you have in order to attain a goal just as it is difficult to gain everything in order to get what you aspire to.
Although in my life, I am not on a quest to reach nirvana, I think everyone is on a journey of some form to reach enlightenment. I think every day is another step on this journey because each day we gain more understanding, wisdom and knowledge. Each day in school and also in life we learn from experiences as well as deliberate teaching. In Siddhartha’s life he wanted to become a samana. He knew that in order to do this he had to fast, think, and sleep. Siddhartha had a goal and he was determined to reach it. His goal had very specific things that needed to be completed before he could reach it. Siddhartha was very diligent in his work on his long journey.
