Sophocles states in his great work Antigone "All men make mistakes, it is only human."
This central message shows a motif, proving repeatedly that humans don't always know best.
Antigone isn't the only work of art that proves this to be true. The movies Shrek and The Lion
King also show that everybody, including the cowards and heroes and not just the villains, make
mistakes. What separates the hero from the villain and the coward is that the hero didn't let their
mistakes define them; they rose above it and became better than they were before.
In every story whether it be play, film, or even a fairytale there will always be a hero and
a villain. In Antigone, Creon, Opedipus’s brother –in- law, served as the …show more content…
Similar to Scar in the Lion King and Lord
Farquaad in Shrek, these villains share the same personality as well as goals. Each villain is
power- hungry, jealous, and arrogant, mainly focusing on invading the kingdom; “[they] were
bad through and through”(“Scar: So Bad”). Due to greed and envy Scar was willing to kill his
brother over power. Ego held Creon back from approving a proper burial “curses will be hurled

Some might say being a coward is worse than being a villain. The villain at least stands in

In the beginning of the movie, he shows this jealousy by not
attending the presentation of Simba. He points out the fact that he “was first in line, until the
little hairball was born.” His resentment and anger towards Mufasa grew strong enough that, he
usurped Mufasa’s place on the throne by murdering him. In movies Shrek 2 and 3, Prince
Charming plays a coward throughout because he was willing to destroy Shrek in order for Fiona
to need consoling so she can fall in love with him. This will transform Fiona from the ogre she
became into the beautiful Princess that she originally was born to be.
In Antigone, Antigone would serve as the hero archetype. Throughout the story, Antigone
displays heroism by playing the loyal character by honoring her brothers' death. The battle
between her two brothers, Eteocles and Polynices, results in a double tragic loss. Antigone is
categorized as the hero because even when Creon, the ruler says "sworn no one shall bury him,
no one mourn for him" (Chesla), Antigone, in an act of rebellion, risks her life and put herself in
danger to give her brother a proper burial despite the choices he made prior to his death. In
