The ancient Maya were very interesting people with very interesting beliefs. One thing the Maya believed was that there were many gods. Gods were of the things that were most important to them such as the rain god and the god of corn. Another thing the Maya believed was that they needed to please the gods by making sacrifices, if they pleased the gods the gods would bless them by sending them rain and etc. Sacrifices often consisted of two things, blood and pain. To start, today in america we have one god whereas the Maya had many. Also today we don’t make human or pain sacrifices as the maya did. The Maya made sacrifices to please the gods because that’s what they thought the had to do in order to continue to get rain or good crops. Both the maya and modern America like to make ourselves beautiful but the maya were way more intense. The Maya got bejeweled teeth and permanently crossed eyes, in America we do get plastic surgery but you don’t regularly see people walking around with crossed eyes when you're going to the store. Although beauty standard are completely different anywhere else in the world and through time permanently crossed eyes is going a little overboard.
