In the Southern colony most of the settlers were Scotch-Irish but there were some Indians that lived here as well. The Southern colony controlled economic and political life in this region. Also the Southern colony had formal education for large landowners and professionals such as doctors or lawyers. The Southern colony also had rich soil and a warm climate. Settlers in the Southern colony grew tobacco, indigo, rice, and other dye textiles. They also planted corn, wheat, potatoes, beans, and turnips. Another thing the Southern colony had was plantations that used indentured servants. These were people who agreed to work without pay to go to America.
