Each story of hero's show the hero's journey. Perseus had help, “As he stood at a crossroad wondering which way to go, Athena and Hermes suddenly appeared. Zeus had sent them to help him.” They were sent to Perseus to help him find Medusa and kill her to protect his mother. (D’aulaires, pg 117) Percy also had help, Grover and Annabeth came with Percy to find the pearls and go to the underworld (get his mom back from Hades). Annabeth is Athena's daughter. (Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief) “No sooner was the monster dead than andromeda’s cowardly suitor returned with many warriors to claim her for his bride. Now he was bold and menacing and Kind Cepheus did not dare to oppose him.” (D’aulaires, pg 120) Perseus helped Andromeda from the sea monster and her parents; he did not give up like a true hero. They both show the theme concept of good vs. evil. Perseus fought the Sea monster, “As he spoke, a horrible sea monster came from the sea, its huge mouth opened wide to swallow Andromeda. But Perseus sprang into the air, dived at the monster and drove his sword deep into its throat.” (D’aulaires, pg 120) Perseus showed the good in society and saved Andromeda from the Sea monster. When Percy went to go look for the second pearl it was in Nashville. Five of the Museum's workers turned into a Hydra. He had to use the winged shoes, shield, and sword in order to kill the Hydra. Grover and Annabeth helped fight the Hydra but Percy used his water powers and killed it. (Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief) Perseus fought Medusa and killed her just like how Percy did. “Looking into the mirroring shield, Perseus swooped down, and with one deft stroke he cut off the Medusa’s head.
