In the poem of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight there are many parts that tie the “story” together. The poem takes place around the destruction of city of Troy in 1200 b.c. This was known as the age of honor to knighthood and emperor power. The poem starts in a Christmas feast in king Arthur’s court. King Arthur was emperor. Sir Gawain is the nephew of king Arthur. King Arthur likes to be told stories while he is eating. On his quest he takes a sword and a shield, on his shield is a pentangle that represents the five virtues which are generosity, fellowship, chastity, courtesy, and charity. Along the way he encounters a castle at which the lord of the castle welcomes him to stay for a couple of days in condition of he go hunting with his men and exchange winning at the end of the day. Sir Gawain agrees. The first day Gawain sleeps in late and the lord’s wife sneaks in his room and steals a kiss from Gawain later that day they go hunting and Gawain earns a kiss from the wife. The second day Gawain goes hunting and this time he earns two kisses from the lady. Finally the third day of hunting and the lady asks Gawain for a love token which he refuses to give and refuses to receive from her. Until she mentions that her green girdle protects anyone that wears it from dying. Gawain accepts it and also gets three kisses from her and does not mention anything about the green girdle. He goes on to bed knowing he leaves in the morning to the Green Knight's Chapel and find the Green Knight
