Filing a small claims case is necessary in order to settle a monetary dispute through legal action. A typical small claims case can involve cases such as failure to pay back rent, failure to repay a loan, or failure to meet the terms of a service contract (“What Types of Cases,” n.d.). In order to successfully file a small claims case, you must first prepare the statement of claim; then, you need to get ready with the court, serve the claim, and go to court. (California Courts, 2013).

Filing a small claims case can be a very tiresome, lengthy process, but it is absolutely necessary to take this action if you have been wronged. Make sure to follow all the steps exactly so that your trial goes by smoothly. Above all else, however, make sure that filing a small claims case is exactly what you need to do in order to derive compensation; make sure that this type of case is as extreme or as minor as you need, and always keep in mind that filing any type of case will not always yield results in your favor.
