Smallpox
When people think about virus, the first thing come to their mind is the dangers of it. People try to get away from the place where they know the virus might be. Scientists try to stop the dangers of the virus by trying to get a therapy for it. Smallpox is one of the oldest diseases to be discover. The origin of it was lost in prehistory. It is believed to have appeared in the northeastern Africa around 10,000 BC. The last outbreak of smallpox in the US was in 1949. However in 1980 “smallpox was said to be wiped out worldwide” thanks to vaccination.(CDC) Smallpox is no longer exist, after leaving people scared from it for the last 12,000 year and killing huge numbers of people. …show more content…
There is 2 common and 2 rare types of smallpox. The 2 common types are called the Minor and Variola major. They are less effective than the rare type Hemorrhagic and Malignant. They carried a very high fatality rate. Smallpox cause a round pox “on the face, arms, and body, and fill up with pus” that become raised to bumps a few days later.(Web-MD) however the disease does not spread through animals. It is only spread through humans by direct face to face contact.
As of today smallpox does not occur naturally after it was eradicated in 1979. The disease was eradicated after successful vaccination campaigns in the 20th centuries. Smallpox vaccine was made of “a virus called vaccine which is a “pox” type virus related to smallpox” that was able to stop smallpox. (CDC) The vaccine of smallpox last for 3 to 5 years. The vaccine does not transfer smallpox and it is safe “one in three people felt bad enough to miss work or school” after taking the vaccine.(CDC) vaccination have ended smallpox but not after more than millions of people
