In chapter one of the book, Paying for the Party, it talks about being subjected to a lack of experiences, sometimes translates into your attitude (Alexander and Hamilton, 44). I do find this to be true due to my personal experience. I came from a small religious town, where I grew up in a southern baptist church. I was around the same small group of people, who had the same vision as me That vision being work ethic, religious views, and even whats right or wrong. Not only that, but those who experienced the same things as me. It was easy to connect with them. Those ideas and values I were taught, were tested when I transferred to University of West Georgia. I had to learn how to be more open minded and it allowed me to see diversity. My goal is to be able to have the chance to move up.With this, I need to be able to have the education and determination to do so. I understand resources are limited and I cannot depend on people to do it for me, but through hard work it can be achieved . I defined myself as motivated, I earned good grades, and I never lost sight of the basic realities in my life. I did “arrive at college with limited financial, cultural, and social resources,”( Alexander and Hamilton p, 152). This did limit me to some things and made me face financial worries, but also real life realities. Paying for my car insurace, car payment, phone bill, and even school were eal life sitauations for me. I couldn’t turn around and ask my parents for a loan. How were they going to afford that? I spent a lot of the time trying to figure out how to pay for my necessities. Just as Heather, in the book Paying for the Party, holiday gifts from my family were a blessing to me. For Christmas, now that I was older, I didn't ask for much. Christmas gifts to me is having my bills paid and lessening the burden of my financial worries. It was definitely eye opening to not only see my social class play a role in my everyday life, but the lives of others as well. Some were more privileged than
